It's been a rough start to Camp NaNoWriMo.
A combination of the July 4th holiday, two days lost to allergies and a lot of wasted time dealing with all the hassles required when moving to a new town has put me pretty far behind. Today is actually one of the allergy days - I have a horrible sinus headache that won't let me concentrate on anything for more than a minute or two. Oh yeah, and I scrapped my idea to have two main characters and went back to my original idea of one teen female MC.
My goals for the next seven days:
1. Catch up on my word count over the weekend.
2. Write FIRST THING in the morning. No internet or TV until daily word count has been reached! Also, if I am having allergy issues they don't usually bother me until 10 or 11 am (and they don't go away until the following morning). If I write first thing then I can avoid missing a day.
3. When I sit down to write, I need to write. Things I do not need to be doing until my word count is reached: online "research," plotting beyond what I'm writing that day, drawing pictures of my alien characters (see above doodle) or trying to find photos of actors or actress I think they would look like then Photoshopping them to look like aliens.
4. If I notice that I'm sitting but not writing, challenge myself to Write or Die.
*
Finally when I am feeling stuck or like I can't do this, I make myself feel better by reading a free Kindle ebook I discovered: Write Good or Die (Do I need to say that the grammatical error in the title is a joke? I hope not). It's a collection of short articles by different authors about writing. A lot of them are blog posts that are already online and some are writers whose blogs I've been following for a while, but it's free and nice to have them all in once place.
